New! Course Crafters/EMR National Survey of ELL Student and Teacher
Materials
Course Crafters, in cooperation with Education Market Research
(EMR), recently conducted a ten-state market survey of mainstream
classroom teachers, ESL/bilingual teachers, principals, and supervisors,
to determine current usage and future needs of instructional materials
for English Language Learners (ELLs), grades K-5 and 6-12. Click
here to view the table of contents.
The survey results answer the following questions and more:
- How are ELLs taught subject-area content to meet the requirements
of NCLB?
- What are the grade and subject-specific challenges of ELLs
and their teachers?
- What materials are teachers using for ELLs?
- What can be done to make subject-area content and textbooks
more usable for ELLs?
- What program features and components are most important in
terms of influencing educators to choose one ELL product over
another?
- Who makes the purchasing decisions with respect to ELL materials?
- Where does the funding come from for ELL instructional materials?
- What are the future needs in terms of effective instructional
materials for ELLs?
- The survey report also estimates the current (2004-2005) school-year
spending in grades K-12 on all ELL instructional materials.
